Many of us are beginning to feel cooped up after the last couple of months of being quarantined. Summer is just around the corner and many of you are probably daydreaming of the fun things you are going to be doing. Your kids are probably ready for some summer fun too!
If you and the kids are ready to escape from your home lockdown but still are advised to stay nearby, you can still get a summer fun vacation right in your backyard. Travel no further than just a few feet from your home and create a fun time by camping out in your own backyard. This is such a fun idea if you have little kids and are looking forward to camping later in the summer, or just something fun to do.

Take a Hike
Explore the outskirts of your backyard campground by taking a hike through your neighborhood. Put on your backpacks and explore nearby places you never been to before, such as roads you never walked or parks you never visited.
You can plot a course by using your compass or map. If you don’t have a map use the GPS app on your phone and navigate together.
Explore the nature around you. Take some pictures too!
Setting Up
Setting up camp doesn’t always feel like a fun experience, but it can be a fun learning one for your kids. This is a great time to teach your kids how they can help set up camp. The kids can help up putting up the tent, rolling out sleeping bags, and tenting up other things on the campsite.
Be sure to create a fun firepit area to cook your camping meal and for roasting s’mores later at night.

Fun Camping Activities
Have even more fun with some of these camping activities.
1. Stargazing
Identify constellations or look for shooting stars when it gets dark out.
2. Scavenger Hunt
Before it gets dark the whole family can have fun by going on their own scavenger hunt. Make your own list of objects to find or take photos of interesting and fun things you find.
3. Look for Bugs
The kids can learn about nature and bugs right within their backyard. This is a great way to teach kids about respecting nature and taking care of it. Look for bugs and observe them for a fun learning experience.
4. Tell Stories
When it gets dark gather around the campfire and tell some stories, such as silly or scary ghost stories. The kids can make up their own stories too! Read a book to the whole family while everyone is gathered around the warm flickering fire. Conversations are also a great idea while the family is together too.
5. Sing Songs
Sing your favorite camp songs around the fire. You can play your favorite songs if one of you knows how to play the guitar. Maybe the kids have a fun summer camp song they’d love to teach you.
