Don’t Be Overbearing

It is important that you stay at home while all the kids are enjoying their slumber party. That’s because you will need to be there to look after them and take care of anything if something goes wrong. They might even need you there to help them serve food and drink if they are still quite young. However, no matter the age of the children, you shouldn’t be overbearing and watch over them constantly. One of the thrills of sleepovers is that there isn’t much interaction with parents. The kids will love being on their own in the bedroom chatting and playing games. Your presence may make them feel like they are being observed! Ideally, you should only check on them every ninety minutes or so. You can do this discreetly. For instance, you could deliver some drinks for them. Remember, though, it’s important you respect the kids as if they were adults, so always remember to knock on the bedroom door before entering!

Listen to the Other Parents

Parents know their own child better than anyone else. So you should expect that some parents will give you some tips on how to handle their children, or they might also give you some information regarding special dietary requirements. It is very important that you listen to everything that the other parents tell you. For example, if a parent tells you that a child’s bedtime is normally 7 pm, it is a good idea to stick to that. Don’t make them stay up just because the other children are wide awake. Otherwise, you could end up with a very annoyed or upset child for the night! Parents know exactly how to make their child happy, so be open to their tips. That way, everyone will enjoy the slumber party!

Listen to the Children Too

If a child starts to tell you that they aren’t having fun, then you need to listen to them. Don’t just think they are being a party pooper; they may have a genuine concern that you need to listen to! If the kids at the sleepover are quite young, you should expect some of them to get upset and homesick. If one child starts to cry or is very upset, you should give them a few minutes to calm down in a quiet corner. More often than not, they will get over their homesickness and will be ready to rejoin the party before too long. However, if their sadness persists, it might be a good idea to call their parents to collect them. Otherwise, their bad mood might spread to the other children.

Get Some Cool Bedding

Kids love anything that is slightly out of the ordinary. Unusual things get them really excited and keep their interest peaked! So how about getting some fun bedding for them to sleep in? You could also decorate the bedroom to really help the kids get excited about going to bed! Some fun sleeping options include indoor teepees and cabin beds. Even regular bunk beds will be exciting for the children who usually sleep in a standard bed! It’s a good idea to make sure that all the kids have the same sleeping arrangements. If they aren’t all equal, some might find it unfair. So if one child has to sleep on the floor, try and arrange things so, they all have to. That way, no one will ever feel left out!

Healthy Nibbles

All the kids will no doubt get quite hungry during their slumber party. That means it’s going to be necessary to get them some snacks and nibbles. Generally speaking, most moms don’t prepare a big evening meals for the kids as they ask the other parents to send their children in the early evening, usually after they would have eaten at home. But, if you would like to cook all the little darlings a home cooked dinner, then make sure you mention it in the invitation. Otherwise, they may arrive full! When it comes to snacks and nibbles through the night, try to limit the kids’ intake of sugary foods. All the sugar could keep them up all night, and you will have some very grumpy kids to deal with in the morning! There are lots of low-sugared foods that will keep the kids’ sweet teeth very happy. For instance, you could make some avocado chocolate mousse pots. These don’t contain any sugar and are packed full of healthy nutrients. Some other great snack options include dried fruit and celery sticks dipped in natural peanut butter.

Join in with the Entertainment

The first step on the path to becoming a cool mom is being a fun mom! And there is only one way you will be able to prove to all the kids that you are amazing fun – you need to join in with their games and entertainment! Of course, you don’t need to spend your whole evening with them, but it’s a good idea to put on some games for them at the start of their slumber party. This can be a great icebreaker if not all the children know one another. One cool idea is to set up a game of pin the tale on the donkey. You can help the kids put their blindfolds on, and can supervise to make sure no one ends up falling over with the pin in their hand! Not only will joining the kids in their games help you seem fun and full of laughs, but it also gives you the chance to intercept anyone who seems to get too excited and hyperactive!

Don’t Force Kids To Join In

Not everyone likes the same things. After all, all that variety makes life interesting! So don’t expect all the children to be as excited about some games and activities as the others. If one child doesn’t fancy joining in with a game, you shouldn’t force them to. But that is no reason to stop playing the game either. You can let all the other children play the game while the child busies himself with a solo activity such as coloring in or reading. Generally speaking, you shouldn’t play any games for too long at sleepovers. It is better to have a lot of games and play them for a short period. This ensures all the kids stay interested. As you won’t be playing the game for too long, the child doesn’t have to be by themselves for a long time!

Organizing a slumber party is easy, but organizing one that cements your reputation as a cool mom takes a little more effort. Hopefully, this blog post will help with that!
