When the sun is shining, and the skies are blue, you don’t need to leave your home to have a great outing with the kids. Your garden is the best place for them. Is it kid-friendly though? Are you even prepared for a ‘day out’ with them in this weather? Parents ask themselves these kinds of questions all the time. Luckily we’ve put together a guide of the essentials things you need to do to prepare.

Buy Sunscreen
You don’t want your kids to be pink with sunburn and cranky all night do you? Make your life a little easier and pick up a bottle or two of sunscreen. Remember to get a fairly high factor if you’ve got naturally pale children too.
Rub it in on all parts of your kids exposed to the sun. Don’t forget to do yourself. You don’t want to get sunburn either, do you?
Buy Outdoor Furniture
It’s fine for the kids to sit on the lawn or the patio, but you probably want something a little more comfortable and clean. You can get yourself some outdoor furniture from My Deal to suit your needs. It doesn’t have to be just plastic chairs either.
You can even get sofas for outdoors now. Beanbag chairs too.
Secure The Garden
Most gardens are closed off. It’s likely yours is too. That said, a check of the perimeter to make sure there are no child-size holes in the fence is wise. The last thing you want is one of them escaping from under your nose.
Also, make sure any alleys leading up the side of your house have a gate on them. You also need to make sure these gates can’t be bypassed. Make sure they’re locked, and that the kids can’t squeeze through them if they have bars.
Keep Hydrated
This goes for all of you. A hot day can be great, but at some point you’re going to start dehydrating as your body compensates for the heat by sweating. Keep a few bottles of water in a drinks cooler for easy access.
Make sure the kids drink them too. They can be susceptible to conditions like sunstroke more than adults.
Make Some Shade
If your garden does not have some natural shade from the house itself or a tree, you need to make some. A good idea would be to get a garden canopy and set yourself up under it to keep an eye on the kids while they play.
After a little while, you could bring the kids under the canopy for a little break to let them cool off, without having to go back inside.
Get Some Toys
A few balls should do the trick. The kids can play all kinds of games with just a softball. A good idea would be to get a few water pistols though. Not only are they fun, they’re a great way for the kids to keep cool because of getting sprayed by water.
If done right, a day in the garden can just be as exciting as a day at the beach.
