Summer is slowly coming to an ending and by the time we realize it school will be back in full swing. The transitional period can be met with some challenges as it can be nerve-racking for the kids with the change of routine, an unfamiliar teacher, and a room full of new classmates. It’s a lot to take in all at once. Children can struggle to transition back into school even if they are excited about going back to school to learn and being reunited with their friends. Aside from the kids, parents are having to get back into the swing of things too. We have to allot our time for getting our kids back to school, homework, and getting everyone to bed on time. Going back to school doesn’t have to be stressful, it can be a smashing success by making it one of the best back to school times ever. Check out how you can make the beginning of back to school incredible below!

Set expectations

With the coming up school days, especially in the beginning, it’s going to be a lot to take in physically and mentally for both you and your children. One way to set up the expectations of school is talking about the topic of school with your children to help mentally prepare them for more structured days. Discuss the upcoming school schedules and even excitement to see their friends again and extracurricular activities.

Make traditions

Back to school can be fun to look forward to. You can easily help your child look forward to back to school by creating traditions. Traditions help your child feel more excited to head back to school for the year and can also be a time for you to bond with them. One tradition I have always done with my children is taking them back to school shopping. I have done this separately with kids as it is a time for us to have one-on-one time. You can take them shopping for shoes, clothes, either have a special treat or meal together. Maybe even have both a meal and special treat for a fun filled day!

Advocate for your child

If there are any concerns about finding the right fit for your child, feel free to speak up. It’s important that they can thrive in an environment so it helps prepare them to be successful during the school year. This can be something as getting a teacher they bond with or being in a classroom with a friend or two.

Let your kids know your feelings

It’s okay to let your guard down if you are feeling nervous about your child heading back to school. It may go a long way to help making them feel better about their transition back. You might even have some experiences of your own when going back to school that can be helpful for them. Share these experiences with them and let them know about your excitement or even nervousness of them going back.
