Each new year many of us begin with great intentions of getting and staying organized in a variety of areas in our lives only to get a few weeks into the new year and forget all about our goals, intentions and new systems we put into place.
This year lets start fresh with a few inspirational helps to getting and staying organized all year long:
You Can Do it – Don’t let your past track record keep you from trying one more year to get and stay organized year round. Look at the past things you have accomplished and remind yourself that you can do it and begin with a fresh to do list of goals.
Write it down – Don’t rely on your memory to keep track of your life. Use planners, to do lists and calendars to keep track of your goals and lists of things you want and need to accomplish on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
Schedule it– I have discovered that if I don’t schedule out time to accomplish my goals they won’t happen. If my goal is to create a months worth of freezer meals then I need to mark on my calendar the day that I will do this or it won’t happen. Schedule in your goals to get and stay organized as if they were appointments.
Time it – Timers aren’t just for cooking and baking they are a great tool to get and keep you organized. Set a side 30 to 60 minutes each day or each weekend to organize a project on your list or to keep an area organized. Using a timer helps keep you on track, to stay focused and see results when the timer goes off.
Make it a habit – The most recent research says it takes 66 days to form a habit. Test it out for your self and try my 10 habits of an organized mom for 66 days. You will begin to feel a sense of control over the chaos in your life. Click here to read the 10 Habits of an organized mom.

Get started off on the right foot with the January get organized check list:
_____ Set New Year goals
_____ Fill in your new calendar in with all of the upcoming activities, year-to-year dates such as birthdays and anniversaries.
_____ Set up your New Year files for bills, taxes and other office needs.
______ Schedule your dental, medical and eye check-up appointments for your entire family. Checking to be sure all immunizations are up to date.
_______Make a de-clutter schedule for the month to clean out closets, drawers and cupboards.
______ Turn all of your hangers backwards. In your closets as you or your family members wear their clothes, turn the hanger around. Anything that is still backwards on June 1, donate it.
_____ Make a house fix it / update it list of all areas that need repair, replaced or cleaning.
______ Create a birthday card file and purchase a years worth of cards so you are prepared for the next birthday on your list.
______ Clean out last year’s pile of magazines.
_____ Clean out your medicine cabinet for all expired and no longer needed medications and refill as needed.
_____ Change your furnace filters and water filters. Make note in your calendar to change again in 3 months.
_____ Keep your house healthy by wiping down all doorknobs, light switches, cabinet handles etc with a disinfecting cleaner.
_____ Begin a new take care of your self regiment – join a gym, begin daily walks, take vitamins or other supplements.
_____Shop January deals on organization supplies, White sales for linens, Christmas décor on clearance and winter clothing sales.
Remember it’s up to you to begin the process of getting and staying organized – You can do it, get making those lists, set those timers and make it a daily habit.
