There is always that one person we think of when it comes to having a clean home. That one person always has the cleanest house no matter what. The rooms are always tidy. The floors are always clean. Everything is in their proper place and has a home.
How do they do it?
Well, I am probably that one person you might know. At least my friends tell me I am that one person who always has the cleanest house no matter what!
I don’t consider myself overall OCD about having a clean house 24 hours and 7 days of the week. Trust me, it’s not possible to have a house THAT clean for that LONG when you have 5 kids and a husband.
There are a couple of things I’ve learned along the way with having my own home and sticking to daily habits to keep my house clean.
Check out 7 things I always do to keep my home clean!
1. Make Your Bed
One of the first things I do to get my day started is making my bed. I always make sure I never leave the house without making it. It sounds like a weird habit since you are going to mess it up later again at night, but there is just something about doing it in the morning that helps me start my day.
2. Don’t Leave a Room Empty-Handed
Getting in the habit of putting away items as you leave the room makes it easy to have a clean home. You have laundry in your room and are going downstairs? Take that laundry with you when you head downstairs and sort it. Are you heading to bed and have dishes on the coffee table? Take them to the kitchen and give them a quick wash or put them in the dishwasher before heading off to bed. Spending a couple more minutes can truly do wonders to help you have a clean home.
3. Never Wear Shoes in the House
This is a tough one when you have a big family, but I’ve always tried my best to make it one of the top rules in our home. Trust me, it does wonders to keep your floors clean. Even when your shoes might seem clean, they are still covered in dirt and bacteria. You are dragging in germs and specks of dirt. Sometimes you might bring in tiny rocks or materials that can cause damage to your floors, especially if you have wood floors.
4. Put It Away Immediately
When I come home, the first thing I do is put away my shoes, jacket, and purse where they belong. It has made it easier for me to hang up my coat and put my purse where I keep it to have a clean home. So, when you get home, make it a habit to put your things away immediately. You’ll notice the difference right away!
5. Clean as You Go
When I am making a meal for my family, I’ve learned to clean as I go. If I am done with a pan, I give it a quick wash in the sink rather than tossing it in the dirty pile to wash later. It takes little time and effort to clean up as go while you’re cooking dinner for the family, but it goes a long way in the end.
6. Make It Part of Your Life
A simple chore, such as folding laundry, can be done while you do something else, like watching TV. You can sweep the floors or organize the fridge while dinner is cooking. If it seems like the last thing you want to do is a chore, try and pair it with the first thing you want to do. It really won’t seem so bad once you do it then!
7. Make Time for a Quick Clean
Sometimes my day seems hectic by something so simple and small that is out of order. When my home is in order, I feel stress-free and calm. I’ve made a daily habit by doing a quick clean up before I head out the door or before I go to bed. You can even set a timer to remind yourself to do a quick clean before your day and after your day is done.
