Day 11 – National Donut Day: Celebrate With These Awesome Recipes

Every year on the first Friday of June, National Donut Day is celebrated.
National Donut Day began as a way to celebrate the female volunteers, known as The Doughnut Lassies, who were serving donuts to soldiers in World War I. The Salvation Army was the first to serve the soldiers on the front lines of Europe. It is the home-cooked foods provided by these brave volunteers that gave a morale boost to the troops during the war.
The donuts were even cooked in oil inside the metal helmets of the soldiers. infantrymen, especially the American soldiers, were commonly called “doughboys”!
It has now become a national phenomenon to celebrate the day by enjoying your favorite donuts. You can do this by enjoying free donuts from nearby restaurants and retail stores from places like Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ Donuts or make your very own at home!
