It’s a strange feeling knowing that many places across the world have been told to stay inside and keep their distances from others. It then becomes more of a reality when your own city goes into a lockdown.
As a parent, it can be a very scary feeling with how uncertain this situation is becoming. Explaining to our children what is happening right now also seems impossible to do considering the anxiety you might be feeling and the news you are hearing. For older kids, it might be easier to explain to them the current situation and find ways to help comfort them. However, for younger kids it might not be so easy to explain what is happening.
Katie Eborall, a mother of two small children—ages 2 and 4—had the right idea to help make sure her family’s home remained a positive and safe place. When the lockdown occurred in her home city, she came up with the idea to create a “Bucket List” of things to do after the lockdown happened.
Here’s how you can make your own bucket list after lockdown!
To get started with this fun activity during your family’s period of self-isolation, you just need a few items you already have around in your home.
- A jar
- Pieces of paper
- A pen
- Your family’s wishes
Katie said that “Every time we wish we could do something, go somewhere, treat ourselves, see someone we love, visit a new place, invite people to visit us, we’re going to write it down on a post it note and put it in a jar.
So, when someone in your family wishes they could go and do something, but you cannot, then write it down. Take a piece of paper and write down what your child’s wish might be to go and do. Maybe they are wanting to go to the park, see their friends, visit family members, or eat a special treat.
This is such a fun activity to do with your family! When all of this is over, you will have tons of activity ideas to do together as a family. As Katie mentioned, it’s a great way to “be more grateful than ever for the little and lovely things in our lives.”
