5 Easy Ways to Clean Blood out of Your Carpet

Life can get messy sometimes. With the children and even pets, sometimes accidents can happen. Tough stains, like red wine and coffee, can be found on the carpet.

When our children get a bloody nose or even cut their finger on accident, blood can spray on the carpet. It then becomes another stain that is tough to get out. Blood stains feel like they might never get out, especially if you don’t act fast enough or know what cleaning products to use.

Cold Water

If you catch the blood stain right away, you can remove the fresh stain from your carpet by using cold water when doing carpet cleaning. You’ll want to use a spray bottle filled with cold water. Use the spray bottle to wet the area with the fresh blood stain. Then use a dry towel to bolt the blood stain. Repeat this until the stain is completely removed.

Detergent Solution

A dry blood stain can also be removed with a cleaning solution of cold water and liquid-dish washing detergent.

  1. First use a soft brush to break up the blood deposit. Gently go over it with the brush.
  2. Then mix 1 tablespoon of liquid-dish washing detergent with 2 cups of cold water.
  3. Use a clean white cloth and bolt the stain with the detergent solution.
  4. Repeat until the stain disappears.
  5. When the stain disappears use a sponge on the spot with cold water and bolt dry.

Ammonia

This is a good method if the detergent solution above does not work from removing blood stains. It should not be used on a woolen carpet.

  1. Mix 2 tablespoons of ammonia with a glass of cold water.
  2. Use a spray bottle to apply the solution to the blood stain on the carpet.
  3. Allow the solution to sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Then use a clean piece of cloth to blot the blood stain.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Using hydrogen peroxide will lighten the color of your carpet fibers, which can hide the stain. Be sure to test a small hidden area of your carpet so it doesn’t change the color of your carpet. if there are no changes then follow these steps:

  1. Wet the blood stain using hydrogen peroxide.
  2. Let it sit for about an hour.
  3. Then blot the area and repeat the steps above until you are satisfied with the results.
