You make your bed every morning, every surface is polished in your home, and the bathrooms are sparkling clean, but is your household really clean?

Filth can build up quietly in unexpected places in our home. From decorations to kitchen appliances, there is dust and dirt piling up silently in overlooked spots to clean. Most of these places you don’t have to clean regularly, but once a month.

Check out these 5 things you are likely forgetting to clean in your home!

1. Coffeemaker

If you are a coffee morning person, you probably enjoy a cup or two in the morning to get your day started. But do you ever have a cup of coffee that taste funky? It’s probably because you need to clean out your coffeemaker.

Water deposits and brewing residue can take over your coffee machine. You can wash it once a month or just run a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water through the brew cycle. Turn the machine halfway off during the brewing cycle so the mix can sit there for an hour. Turn it back on to complete the cycle. Then run fresh water through the coffeemaker several times until the vinegar smell is gone.

2. Kitchen Trash Can

While you might take the trash out when it is needed, there is likely bacteria inside and outside of your trash can. Foul odors can also start to linger too. Clean the trash can with a water hose and before it with disinfect product. Give it a good scrub and then rinse it off.

3. Dishwasher

You might be surprised, but dishwashers require cleaning too. They can get clogged with food debris, soap scum, water deposits, and bacteria. Clean the dishwasher filter first and then use a heavy-duty cleaning agent.

4. Washing Machine

If your clothes start to smell less fresh after being washed, it’s time to clean your washing machine. Your washing machine is prone to growing mold and mildew. Clean the washing machine by using white vinegar and baking soda through the hottest temperature you can.
