Feeding your family well starts with buying the right items at the grocery store. Misleading labels are everywhere within the store. Improving the quality of your groceries to feed your family healthier and less-processed foods is less of a hassle than you might imagine.
Just keep these easy tips in mind when you are shopping next time at the grocery store.
Always read the list of ingredients
We all might be guilty of going down the grocery store aisle and grabbing items that are labelled as “organic”, but once home we find out these ingredients aren’t healthy. These “healthy” food are filled with refined sugar, flavors, and other ingredients.
Next time you are at the grocery store, make sure you read every label. You can even contact the brand of the product for questions.
Purchase whole foods
Buy foods that are only one-ingredient, such as fruits and vegetables. You can also choose foods with a short list of ingredients. Make sure you can pronounce and understand them!
Shop for bulk
Buying items within bulk can cost less money. Some things you can buy in bulk are legumes and grains. Make sure you purchase these bulk items from a store you trust! Check out Every Moms Must Buy in Bulk Items.
Avoid the numbers on ingredients
Never buy any items that have the red no. 40 or yellow no. 6 (along with other colors and numbers). Your taste buds might love the lover of these but your body surely cannot identify them and they didn’t grow from the ground or on a farm!
9
Little stickers, such as fresh produce like fruits and vegetables, starting with the number “9” are organic.
Don’t buy gum or candy
It’s tempting to buy a sweet treat when you are at the grocery store, but these are filled with chemicals and nothing that is good for your health!
