Because when you’re thinking about inviting guests over, there are a few things that you need to do to be ready – particularly around the home. So let’s take a look at what you need to do.

1. Cleaning

As you might expect, the first thing you’re going to want to do centers around cleaning. It is spring after all, so what better time to get your home ready for guests?

Doing The Big Spring Clean

First of all, you’re going to want to tackle that big old spring clean. And yes, you knew it was coming, so this is why we’re starting off with it first. Now that winter is behind us; you’re probably itching to give your entire home a good clean, if you haven’t already. So get started by going to town with your cleaning products and really making sure that every corner and surface shines. This is always a good base for when you’ve got guests coming over.

Washing The Guest Rooms Sheets

Next, you’re going to want to focus on the guest rooms specifically. If you are having more than one set of people over, you can repeat this process in each room. Take extra care to make this rooms look great and be sure to wash the sheets right before your guests arrive so they’re nice and fresh.

Preparing The Guest Bath

While you’re there, you’re also going to want to work on your guest bathroom. It’s nice for your guests to have their own bathroom, even if it means that you have to ban other family members from using it during this time. Be sure to stock it up with the right products like the toiletries and towels they might need.

2. Organizing

Next, you’re going to want to make sure that your home is nicely organized ready for your guests’ arrival. This is something that you may want to combine with the next point, but here are some ideas to get you started in the meantime.

Clearing Space In The Guests Rooms

You’ve had a good clean, but now you need to take things a little step further to make sure that they are organized too. Your guests may need space to keep their clothes and personal belongings during their time with you, so make sure that you’ve cleared away from space in the guest bedrooms for them.

Going Clutter-Free

Next, you’re going to want to think about decluttering the rest of your house too. Because you want to make the right impression, and cluttered surfaces aren’t going to do that. So tidy away anything that you don’t need or throw it out!

Creating A Social Space

By this, we’re thinking specifically about cleaning out an old room that you kind of just use for storing junk, such as an old bedroom or the attic or basement. By clearing out the room, you could then use the tips in the next point to spruce up the space and turn it into somewhere social that you can use when your guests are here. This will be particularly helpful for you when it comes to point five.

3. Decorating

Alongside organizing and even cleaning, you may also decide that you want to do a little bit of decorating too. Sometimes, spring is the perfect time to do it as you’re feeling ready for change. And it’s great to really spruce up the place ready for when guests arrive, particularly in this areas…

Your Reception Rooms

A good place to start is with your reception rooms. This is where you’ll be spending a lot of time with your guests. So if you want to jazz up your living space, dining room, or kitchen, now is a great time to do it.

The Guest Bedrooms

And, of course, you’re going to want to put some attention into the guest rooms too. If you’ve just given them a good clean and tidy, you may notice they need a little spruce too. Working on your guest bedroom decor is definitely going to help you get your home ready for their arrival.

Your Outside Space

For this point, you’ll actually be killing two birds with one stone. When you have guests over during the spring and summer months, it’s always nice to spend time outside if the weather is nice. So it’s always a good idea to have an outside living space ready for this. But at the same time, it’s just a good idea to have this ready in general so that you can enjoy it. So have a good old tidy up out there, and maybe upgrade your dining area or bring in some lovely accessories like lights or cushions that can show the space off a bit more.

4. Cooking

Next, you’re going to want to think about your current cooking situation. When you have guests, it’s important for you to have the right setup in place, so these tips should help.

Have Go-To Recipes

When you have people over, you always want to bring out your best recipes. So it’s good to have some failsafe dinner party recipes that you know you do well and that are general crowd pleasers. Whether your guests are over for a few days or more, knowing that you have some recipes in mind is going to mean that you have their meals covered, as well as where they are staying.

Plan As Much As You Can

Leaving everything to the last minute is never a good idea, you know that. When you’re in a rush to buy groceries and get your cooking done, it’s going to leave you feeling stressed out. And you have guests, so you want to be able to enjoy your time with them. By planning your meals in advance, having your ingredients ready, and even have things whipped up and ready to go in the fridge and freezer is going to really help you out here.

Stick To Easy Cooking Methods

Here, we’re thinking that you’re going to want to try a lot of easy ideas like crockpot meals or something that you can throw on the grill. Not only are these going to be delicious and show off your great home cooking, but they’re also easy. This means that you can still entertain your guests and while the food is cooking, making you the perfect host!

5. Hosting

And about being a perfect host, we’re going to give you a few tips on how to have that down too. Because when you’ve got guests coming, you always want to make sure that they feel welcome, and that they enjoy their stay with you.

You’ve cleaned, you’ve organized, and you’ve even decorated, but this still might not be enough. Because your house may still look or feel quite cold and uninviting. So you’re going to want to make sure that you have a welcoming atmosphere around the entire home ready for when your guests arrive. Burn candles, set the temperature just right, and be sure that there’s no blaring music or arguments if you can help it. Welcoming your guests right from the start can generally set the tone of their stay, so do what you can to make the right first impressions.

When you have guests to stay for a while, you’re going to want to make sure that you have something for them to do when they are with you – particularly in the evenings. And you need to give this some thought before they arrive, just in case you need to get anything ready, like purchasing snacks for a movie night or getting games ready.

Last but not least, you may also want to think about different things you can do with your guests. While some of these ideas will fall under the entertaining at home category, you may also want to enjoy some days out together too.

Once you’ve worked through each of these five areas, you should find that both your home and you are ready for your guests to come over this spring or throughout the summer. And then, all that’s left to do is enjoy their visit!
