Project Doggy: DIY For Your Pup

Buying toys and treats gets expensive, and we all have perfectly good ingredients and unused items that can be re-purposed and re-imagined to make something wonderful for our pets! Spark your creativity and pamper your pup with these delightful project ideas from Rover.com:

No-Bake Pumpkin Treats

Blend equal parts canned pumpkin and peanut butter (unsweetened, without xylitol), and roll into inch-wide balls. Then, coat the outside in plain oats. Refrigerate for at least an hour. Celebrate fall in style by serving these to your pup!

Puzzle Ball

Cut a tennis ball along one side of the white seam. Place a couple of non-perishable treats inside, then tuck the flap into the other side of the seam. The rubber will help keep it in place, but with chewing and ingenuity your pup will get the treats out! The ball can be re-filled, or tossed once it’s been chewed to pieces.

Doggy Oasis

Use old towels and sheets to create a haven for your pup. Fold a towel in half, placing one or two flat sheets folded into eighths in the center of the towel. Roll another towel lengthwise, placing it along the three open edges of the first towel. Then, sew the edges together, being sure to get the needle through the base and a couple layers of the rolled towel so it all stays together. Let your pet get cozy on her new bed.

Beef Jerky

Thinly slice top-round beef and bake it at 175 F for 3-4 hours. Give it to your pups as a training reward or a delicious, chewy snack!

Toy Box

Take a cardboard box and turn all the flaps inward. Cut out a cross-shaped piece of fabric to fit the base and insides of the box, and glue it in place. Then, paint the outside of the box with acrylic paint, in whatever pattern you’d like. Place all your dog’s toys in the box, and teach them to put their toys away after playtime!

Ball Toss

Wrap a t-shirt around a ball, and seal off one edge with tight rubber bands. Then, cut the section that hangs off to create a fringe. Perfect to toss and play with, on repeat!
