8 Ways to Boost Family Time

Sometimes life can get pretty busy for the whole family. The children have school and my husband goes off to work. Then after school the kids have activities and then there is dinner, homework, and off to bed. The week goes by quickly and then by the weekend we are completely exhausted.

The pattern can consume so much of our time that we forget to sit down and spend together as a family. It’s one of the most important things to do when your kids are growing up and not creating the memories together as a family. Time flies quickly and eventually the kids will be out of the house and making their own way in the world.

I try to make time with my family at least once a month. Sometimes we are able to spend more time together. It’s always refreshing when we do too.

Here are 8 ways to boost family time and to get together with your loved ones when times are busy.

1. Eat together as a family

Setting down as a family at dinner time has always been a favorite time. While the week is busy, sitting down for dinner for a little bit has helped me know what is going on my family’s life. We talk about our day and anything that comes to mind. There is always smiles and laughter. I even listen to my kids and help give them advice when they need it.

2. Have a weekly family night

Have a family night once a week with your loved ones. Go to a fun place together or go out to dinner. You can evens stay in for a movie night or game night.

3. Read together

Reading with your children is a great way to help them learn and also spend time with them. It’s also a great activity for all ages. You can read picture or chapter books. Let your children pick out the books sometimes too.

4. Serve others as a family

Serving others as a family is not the only beneficially to your family but also to those who you serve. It’s also a great way to learn the value of helping others without expecting anything in return.

5. Take up a new hobby with the family

Find a new hobby together is a great time to learn something new together. You can connect over the learning process of the hobby and sharing the enjoyment of it together. Make sure you think of something to do and ask everyone for ideas.

6. Exercise together

Improve your health together by exercising. You can go to the gym together, bike rides, or even on a walk.

7. Plan a monthly excursion

Think of a new place to visit each month. Perhaps a theme park, museum, or location. Ask your children for some ideas too.

8. Do chores together

Doing chores together with your children helps them learn teamwork and that contribution is important in a family. Assign chores that your kids can do depending on their age. It will teach them responsibly accountability.
