As a parent, you want your children to have every opportunity in life and have the best education available, right? Did you know that music is an important part of of children’s education? In fact, music is considered by many experts to be a form of intelligence, just like language and math. So why would you not want your child educated in music? Sadly music program are often the first programs cut from schools when they lack funding and the last restored when funding does arrive. This leaves major gaps in the education of millions of children.
I have personal experience with this issue. In 5th grade I started to learn to play the trumpet in my school band. By the time I reached the 8th grade, my school district scrapped our area’s entire music program. I was devastated and felt devalued. My generation in our community had to go without music education and I for one don’t want to see the same thing happen to my children. Fortunately VH1 Save The Music Foundation feels the same way and is working to bring hope to kids across the country.
VH1 Save the Music has been working tirelessly to restore music programs in school, in fact they’ve been doing it for 20 years now. To celebrate their 20th Anniversary they have been busy promoting their Play It Forward campaign to raise awareness around their mission of making sure that EVERY kid in America will have access to music education in the next 20 years.

Whether you or your children have had the benefit of a school music program or not, you can help your children’s voices be heard. VH1 Save The Music is giving students (with their parents’ help) a chance to to share why they think music in school is important and enter for a chance to win big prizes for their school or one less fortunate! The last day to enter is this Friday, April 21st.
