The holidays are over and now you have a ton of gifts just lying around cluttering the living room and it’s time to take down the tree. You’ve got to love family that over-bought for your baby for Christmas, but now you have two or three of almost everything, including clothes that baby will never get to before getting too big to fit in them anyway. Then there are gift cards to restaurants and stores you won’t be getting to and although you are truly thankful for all those lovely gifts, it seems like such a waste. So, what can you do? Here are a few suggestions that might help you feel a little less guilty when you hear what they are!
Find a Family in Need
Of course, the purely altruistic thing to do would be to find a family in need that didn’t have a wonderful Christmas. There are more of them out there than we’d care to think about and if you find one with a baby of the same gender and around the same age as yours, you could always re-gift some of those baby gifts to that family. Some of the toys and play things your baby got may not be gender specific so those could be donated to any child of the same age. Your gift of love will not go unnoticed, except hopefully by the person who gave you the gifts in the first place!
Return Them for in-Store Credit
If you know where the gifts were purchased, you could take them back for an in-store credit. Most shops will give you a ‘gift card’ for the amount of the item which you can then use to shop for other merchandise of equal or lesser value. If there is nothing in that store you really want, there are other things you could do with that credit so that it isn’t a total loss. There is no need to buy something ‘just because you can’ and don’t want to lose that money which you can put to good use in other ways. Hold onto that card because you can still use it!
Sell Your Gift Cards for Cash
Whether you’ve been given a gift card for Christmas or have turned in an unusable present and remunerated with a gift card good at that store only, there is a way to turn that card into cash right there on the spot. You don’t even need to leave home to do it – once you get there that is. There are now novel new sites online like EJ gift cards that will give you cash money right there on the spot. Just enter the information in fillable forms, follow the form through to the end and you will have money credited to your PayPal right then and there. These sites have a list of stores they will buy gift cards from and if yours is listed there, you could have money in your account in mere moments.
Most of us don’t want to hurt another person’s feelings by telling them you can’t use the gift or it doesn’t fit baby or you really don’t want baby to have something like that. There really is no reason to do that because there are things you can do with it. Instead of feeling ungrateful because you can’t use it, find ways to do something with that gift and everyone will be happy. You will feel better that you have something you can use and baby will love what you end up buying with that money. A winning solution all the way around.
