24 Time Saving Tips for the Kitchen

Saving time to cook any meals is a MUST for any mom. I love anything that makes time I spend in the kitchen easier and more efficient so I can focus more of my time on more important things. Any of these 24 Time Saving Tips for the Kitchen is good for any beginner cook or home chef pro!

  1. To see if an egg is still good, place them in about four inches of water. Eggs that are good will stay on the bottom. If an egg tips up, the egg is less fresh and should be used soon. If the egg floats then it is a bad egg. Throw it out!
  2. Burned your rice accidentally? Place a piece of white bread on top of the rice for 5-10 minutes. This will draw out the burned flavor, but be careful to not scrape the burned pieces off the serving pan.
  3.  For quicker and fluffier popcorn, soak the popcorn kernels in water for 10 minutes before popping. Drain the water then pop as normal.
  4. Storing bananas separately from other fruit since bananas release gases which cause fruit to ripen quickly.
  5. When defrosting meat from the freezer, pour some vinegar over it. It tenderizes the meat and brings down the temperature of the meat, causing it to thaw quicker.

  13. Use a Teaspoon to peel ginger root as opposed to a knife or peeler to prevent waste.
  14. Wrap clingfilm around the stalk of a banana to keep it from over-ripening.
  15. Read recipes in full before you start to cook. This will help so you might not mess an essential step!
  16. Choose in-season ingredients, this will help you save money and get the best flavors and nutrients!
  17. Clean as you go. For examples, fill your sink with warm, soapy water, and as you finish with your dishes sit them into the water. This will help cleaning the gunk off your dishes after your meal!
  18. Wrap your lettuce in a clean, dry paper towel and store it in a resealable plastic bag in the fridge. This will keep the lettuce fresh.
  19. Press a piece of wax paper onto the top of your ice cream carton before you put the lid back on, which will help prevent condensation from forming icy crust on your ice cream!
  20. Almost every baking recipe calls for eggs and butter at room temperature. To speed this process along for eggs, place them in a bowl of warm water for 5-10 minutes and you’re ready to get cracking
  21. If your baked good recipe calls for nuts or berries, toss them with flour before adding to the batter to keep them from settling to the bottom of the pan.
  22. To keep your sour cream and cottage cheese to last longer, all you need to do is invert the container and keep it in the fridge.
  23. Scramble an egg by whisking it in a mug, pop it in the microwave for 45 seconds!
  24. To cook bacon with an iron, wrap it in foil and use the iron to heat it. Make sure you cook it thoroughly!
