Perhaps it is due to the fact that as humans, we are drawn to wherever there are food and drink. Go traditional

If the cozy, homey look is what you’re all about, there is no better place to create this than in your kitchen. Your kitchen needs to be somewhere that you can sit with friends laughing and drinking until the early hours, so it had better be welcoming. If you live in an old property, make use of your period features such as old beams. The country kitchen look is hugely popular and beams are a real talking point that can help build this look. Don’t fret if you don’t have a huge Aga oven. Of course, this really does complete the look, but mixing modern alongside traditional furnishings works too.

Keep it warm

If you are going to be spending a lot of time in your kitchen with friends and family, it will need to be warm. Kitchens tend to have stone or wooden floors and good ventilation systems – all useful things, but it can sometimes render them as quite cold spaces. Usually, using the oven or the stove will be enough to warm up the room. But it’s best to get a radiator or two installed just for the rare occasions where you aren’t using it. Or, if you’re really committing to the ‘country kitchen’ vibe, why not get an old fireplace put in?

Make sure it’s easy to clean

Kitchens are one of the most difficult places in the home to keep clean, purely because there is a lot of food preparation going on in there on a daily basis. A dirty kitchen is particularly inviting for guests, so make sure you install a kitchen that you are able to keep clean without much hassle. Your surfaces are where most of the dirt will build up, so make sure you choose a material which is easy to wipe clean and one that is heat-resistant. If getting a completely new kitchen is out of the question for you, why not consider Kitchen Cabinet Refinishing?

Have enough seating

If you’re hosting a house party with alcohol involves, chances are people will happily stand in the kitchen. Most people tend to mill in and out of rooms in these scenarios, so you shouldn’t have to worry too much about seating. However, if you are hosting a dinner party, it can be disastrous if you don’t have enough seating. Stackable chairs or stools are great for these situations as they are easy to keep out of the way when you’re not using them.
