I’ve spent a good amount of time traveling overseeing. I’ve seen lots of hungry children around the world and seen lots of different non-profits campaigning to get them food. But up until recently I was unaware that 1 in 5 children here in America live in households without consistent access to adequate food. I was shocked. 10 million children don’t get breakfast every morning. 10 million. To put that into perspective that’s roughly equivalent to the entire nation of Portugal or the entire state of North Carolina. That’s a lot of children! And quite frankly, one hungry child is one too many.

But what can be done about? After all, you might not know any of these children personally or even know where to find them. Thanks to Albertson’s and Hunger Is, helping feed hungry children is as easy as shopping for your own children. For the month of September Albertson’s donating $0.10 for every specially marked item that you purchase, up to $1 million, to the Hunger Is campaign to aid in ending childhood hunger. You can also donate to the Hunger Is campaign at checkout. Hunger Is is focusing on expanding breakfast programs, providing children with a healthy start to their day.

So those Goldfish crackers that you pack in your children’s lunches, those after school mini Magnum bars, even the flavored sparkling waters you enjoy after the children are asleep; all of those give back to the hungry children here in America. How great is that? So you don’t need to feel guilty about buying treats for your own children, and you get to help hungry children at the same time. Head to your nearest Albertson’s all month and help the Hunger Is campaign’s efforts to end childhood hunger by buying your family favorites and donating at checkout.
