Smartphones USED for Good #UseIt4Good

This morning as I arrived to the breakfast table everyone’s  heads were bowed in a reverent  manner.  One might have suspected it was a quiet time of prayer, however a closer look revealed  they were all tapping away at their smart phones.  Sending messages to friends and family, scrolling through Facebook updates, searching the internet for the latest weather or  sports scores while others were posting pictures of their latest adventure here in Mexico.  The smart phone use was the focus and I too have discovered the benefits  of using my smart phone to share my life and passions with others.

A little over two years ago our family decided to step out of our comfortable suburban world and move to Mexico to invest our time in serving those who have far less than we do, for those who work hard day in and day out but still the basic needs of housing, food, health care and education go un-met.  How could we give them hope?nate cliff hohkids hoh

This is where our work with Homes of Hope entered and we began to see families gain hope. A hope for a better life for their families, a hope that this winter they would no longer be sleeping in homes with roofs that leak, muddy floors or drafty walls and doors.  That their childnate hoh picture 2015ren would have a place to call home, a bed to sleep in , a stove that their moms could cook a hot meal on, a table to sit and do their homework and  eat meals with their families. Each weekend we bring teams of families, business groups and churches across the Mexico border to build homes and bring hope to families here in Mexico. We have built over 5000 homes.

Using my smart phone to capture these experiences is priceless and is definitely a way to use my smart phone for good to not only have family memories but to  share our experience via social media and encourage others to join in with us or with their  own passions to see Hope restored in others. Thus I have joined in with AT&T and their campaign #UseitforGood a program to celebrate and inspire ways to use smart phones for the greater good. To encourage people to commit to #UseIt4Good in their own lives and provide opportunities to make it easy.
