My Mom is my hero. She’s one of the most selfless people I know. She chose to stay home with my brothers and I throughout my childhood even though we weren’t an easy lot. I think the part of her parenting that impressed me the most is the way that she always pressed on and loved us unconditionally even when our family and community treated her poorly. I’m from an area where women are often put down and rarely receive praise, but this never deterred her. She still stayed positive even in the midst of being receive the brunt of women jokes and being laughed at. Instead of becoming defensive, jaded, or combative, she chose to love more and to serve others. She laid her life down for our family everyday. It was a beautiful sacrifice and I’m so grateful for her.
I hope that my children feel the unconditional love from me that I have always felt from my Mother. She’s always believed in me and supported me. Her love has been a huge part of making me who I am today.
