We would all love the perfect garden. Not only is it a place to spend family time and socialise during the summer, a very good garden adds a lot of value to the property. However, gardens are not cheap to renovate, and you can spend a lot of money trying to spruce them up. So, if you haven’t got the money you are always going to struggle. But, if you don’t want to take no for an answer, here are a couple of great gardening hacks to do it on the cheap.

Find The Freebies

You don’t need the best of the best for a good garden. You just need solid equipment to get the job done. So, if you don’t have the tools and you’re on a tight budget, check out Freecycle. Freecycle is a website where you can find great equipment because people are just throwing them away or don’t want too much money. They are a great place to get gardening essentials. Obviously, eBay and Amazon are also a great place to find bargains for any accessories, and gardening is no different.

Use The Lighting To Good Effect

Your garden doesn’t even have to be the finished article for it to look good. You can use nifty tricks like lighting to make it seem as if you have spent hundreds of pounds doing it up. In reality, you haven’t, but no one else knows that apart from you and me! Shine the lights on the parts of your garden that you are most proud of to enhance their look. To do it on a budget buy solar powered lights. In the short term, they are a bit more expensive, but they save you money in the long run.

Fancy Water Feature

To be honest, it doesn’t even have to be fancy if you can’t find one that is cheap enough. All you are looking for is a water feature that is a focal point of your garden and draws attention. Stone bird baths are a great example. They are basic, cheap and best of all they look great.

Use Plastic

Plastic ground reinforcement is a superb way of keeping your garden tidy and saving money in the process. Grass tends to cut up easily, especially if there are a lot of people walking on it all day every day. If you lay plastic underneath the grass, it stabilises the soil, and the turf will not ruin as easily. You can spend a lot of money on grass, so it is important to get your money’s worth out of it after the purchase.

A Lick Of Paint

A touch of paint on a dreary looking garden will make a bigger impact than you realise. Garden sheds and fences will grow old with time, and they need looking after. Instead of ripping them out or tearing them down, buy a tin of paint to spruce it up. The gloss and the shine will affect the whole garden, not just the accessories.
