The weekend city break, cherished by those who work full time but want to travel to new destinations regularly. Taking up only a couple of days of your holiday allowance, the city break allows you jet off to a new and exciting destination, experience a different culture and escape from it all for a few days.

So just where should you jet off to this year?
1. Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon is the perfect destination for a wistful city getaway as you can enjoy a bustling but quaint town experience filled with cafes and bars. Ride around on the buses and metro for free with a Lisbon Tourist card, sample the custard tarts at Lisbon’s renowned café shop Antiga Confeitaria de Belém or visit the Jeronimos Monastery to take in monuments from the Golden Age. You’ll love the city so much you’ll be contacting Portugal Property for prices on a villa nearby.

2. Vienna, Austria
Another capital city on the list, Vienna is the perfect city break destination for the art lover who enjoys stopping for coffee every hour or so on beautiful cobbled streets on top of taking in an opera and enjoying a tipple in a top floor bar over looking the Danube canal.

3. Sorrento, Italy

Sorrento is the ideal city location if you’re looking to explore rich history in a beautiful setting. Take the 30-40 train journey to see the ruins of Pompeii or you could even go and visit Mount Vesuvius, an active volcano which is another short train journey out of the city. Use Sorrento as your base, with its quaint atmosphere and charming restaurants and cafés to experience in the evening but use your time in the day to explore a little further afield.

4. Berlin, Germany
Berlin is a bustling metropolis featuring interesting and profound pieces of history along with tourist attractions for all to enjoy. Pay a visit to one of the last remaining and restored stretches of the Berlin wall, rent out a bike and pedal around to see the historic sights of the Reichstag and the Holocaust Memorial and finish off with a traditional Currywurst – which consists of a sliced pork sausage covered in a mix of ketchup and curry powder served with bread or fries – from one of the many takeaway restaurants in the city.

5. Kraków, Poland
Voted the top city break destination by a poll created by Which? Kraków is considered by many to be an ideal destination for a city break with hazelnut vodka, cobbled streets, bustling markets and the opportunity to explore underground salt mines, as highlights of a visit.

6. London, England
London is, of course, a popular city break destination for many reasons: top restaurants and bars, attractions such as the London Eye, Aquarium, Tower of London and Madame Tussauds and brilliant live performances of shows such as The Lion King musical, Wicked, Billy Elliot and the Woman in Black taking place daily. Don’t forget it’s the perfect place to enjoy some retail therapy with Camden Market and Oxford Street.

So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, book that flight and jet away for a few days of fun.
