Tips for Preparing your Home for a Guest Stay

suitcases 1If you’re soon to be entertaining and want to be a fantastic host, it’s a good idea to think about ways in which you can prepare your home for your guests in a way so that they feel comfortable, happy, welcome and so they have everything they need.
Here are some tips for doing just that!
Ensure they have lots of things to keep them comfortable
From extra blankets to keep them warm at night to extra pillows or cushions for when sleeping or sitting on the sofa, comfort is really important and these extra measures will show your guests that you’ve really thought about their needs.
Give your home a thorough clean
Cleaning your home from top to bottom is high on the list of things to do when having a guest to stay, as it’s obviously not very pleasant to stay in someone’s home if it’s not very clean! You could take this opportunity to do those not-so-fun big jobs too like defrosting the freezer and giving the fridge a big clean, so that you’ve got it all out of the way all at once.
Offer them different lighting options
A lamp in a bedroom can make a huge difference for when it comes to making someone feel at home, for example, especially when it comes to settling down at night. Provide your guests with a bedside lamp so they can get ready for bed or read by a gentle light instead of a harsh, big light.
Use simple tips and tricks to make their room more inviting and pleasing
Think about the different senses when it comes to making their guest bedroom (and your home in general) more inviting and pleasing. So think about the scent of your home, and how you can improve it using different fragrances in the different spaces. Likewise, think about ways in which you can use simple items to make it feel cosier, such as fresh flowers by their bedside. These little touches will go a long way in making your guests feel happy and welcome.
Provide your guests with some storage space
There’s nothing worse than arriving somewhere to stay and seeing you have nowhere to store your belongings or to hang up your clothes. Therefore provide your guests with things like storage baskets, shelves or even a wardrobe. There are lots of different storage solutions for the bedroom available from IKEA that can be put away when your guests have gone, too, which are really useful if you’re short on space.
Stock up the kitchen and bathroom
A great host always ensure that their guests have enough to eat, and that they have all the toiletries that they’ll need for their stay. So, stocking up the kitchen cupboards and purchasing some extra toiletries for the bathroom is a great idea. If you want to go that extra mile, you could buy some of their favourite foods, drinks and bathroom products, too, which is a nice touch!
