Are there things you’ve wanted to do as a family that you’ve never got round to? Perhaps you feel your little ones are growing up too fast and you’re missing out on their important steps? Whatever the case, it’s important to take a look at what’s going on in your life and make adjustments if necessary. Being a parent is far from easy, but here are five promises to make to your children this year that could help bring you all closer together.
Promise one: To go on a family holiday
We all need a break from time to time, so if the daily grind is getting too much, how about jetting off into the sun for a family holiday? With many companies offering a wide range of baby friendly hotels you’re sure to find somewhere that’s great for kids and adults alike, so see what’s out there and get booking – after all, trips away are the ideal time to bond with your loved ones and make a host of lifelong memories.
Promise two: To go on day trips
With so much to see and do in the UK, there’s really no excuse for staying indoors all the time. This beautiful island is home to everything from castles to national parks as well as wildlife parks, aquariums and museums, so why not head out on an adventure and explore? What’s more, days out with the kids don’t have to cost the earth as many activities are extremely cheap or completely free making them even more enticing.
Promise three: To eat as a family
Believe it or not, kids like structure and routine. Regular activities help them to feel safe and secure, so it’s well worth preparing a meal around the same time each day and eating together as a family. Not only will you be able to catch up on each other’s gossip and news you’ll hopefully be able to spot changes in your children’s’ character which might indicate that they’re unhappy or upset. A problem shared is a problem halved, so make the most of meal times and bond as a family unit.
Promise four: To respect their individuality
Every child has their own character and personality and that’s what makes them unique in their own special way. As a parent, it’s your responsibility to respect their individuality and embrace all their quirky traits – even if you don’t fully understand them. Of course, it’s easy to make comparisons between siblings but try not to as this could damage their self-esteem.
Promise five: To lead by example
How do you expect your children to have good manners if you, as a parent, don’t act in an appropriate way? Children tend to do as they see so it’s important to lead by example. There are many ways to do this from being truthful and courageous to listening, eating healthily and working hard when you need to. Being positive, upbeat and creating solutions instead of dwelling on problems is also a good idea and will hopefully encourage your children to be optimistic.
With a New Year well underway, now is a great time to make changes to your family life with these five great promises to your kids.
