My family has been loving avocados lately. We can’t get enough of their depth of flavor and find ourselves putting them on everything. We love some great homemade guacamole and find it to be the perfect addition to every salad. Our favorite is a breakfast tradition my husband’s family has been doing for quite sometime, avocado toast. We put slices of fresh avocado on toast with a little lemon juice, salt and pepper. Yum!
On top of their great flavor we love the health benefits. Avocados contain naturally good monounsaturated fat, which are an important part of a healthy diet. Fresh avocados are cholesterol and sodium free, making them a satisfying and enjoyable snack. Each one-ounce (one-fifth of a medium avocado) serving contains: 8% DV fiber, 4% DV potassium, 2% DV iron, 81 mcg lutein & zeaxanthin, and less than 1 gram sugar. I learned that avocados are fruit because they have a pit.
I think it is funny how the kids react to the notion of only eating vegetables. That is something a kid could never understand.
I learned that avocados are a fruit.
I learned that avocados are considered a fruit because vegetables don’t have seeds.
I learned that kids understand how versatile avocados are- they can be used for guacamole, in a salad or eaten plain with salt.
