Three So Cal moms just launched Bonga Foods – a new line of baobab superfood products from Africa’s “Tree of Life,” arriving on shelves at select Whole Foods Market stores this month and available online at JohnPaulSelects.com/bonga. The baobab (BEY-oh-Bab) tree produces fruit that is exceptionally high in soluble fiber and vitamin C; rich in minerals and electrolytes; bursting with antioxidants; and one of the few plant sources of calcium. It dehydrates naturally on the tree, falling to the ground when mature, and is then sustainably harvested by women in sub-Saharan Africa. The baobab powder is simply separated from its seed and sieved in its natural, unprocessed form before packing. The unique combination of nutrients found synergistically in baobab is not compromised since the fruit does not need to be pasteurized, heat extracted, freeze dried or concentrated.
Bonga Foods donates 10% of all profits to the Bonga Foundation, which supports the women who harvest the fruit in southern Africa and their families, as well as other women’s and environmental causes here in the US. Bonga means “gratitude” in Zulu – one of the dialects spoke by the women harvesters in sub-Saharan Africa. To express their “bonga” for moms this weekend, Bonga Foods will be sampling four varieties of Superfood Chews (in Mango, Pomegranate, Raspberry &Strawberry) and giving out packets of its Raw Organic Baobab Superfood Powder – which can be added to boost up the nutrient level of water, smoothies, baked goods, yogurt parfaits and more – at the EIF/Revlon Run Walk to End Women’s Cancers on Saturday, May 10 at the Los Angeles Coliseum from 9 am – noon.
