MOM Tip: How To Ripen Bananas For Baking

BananasMOM Tip: Sometimes your craving a fresh banana baked good and your bananas are ever so yellow/green and not getting close to being ripe. So what do you do? Try this tip from Surviving The Stores to ripen your bananas quickly.

Set your oven to 350˚ and place the green or semi-green bananas in the oven for 8-10 minutes. They come out soft and mushy – perfect for banana bread!

If you don’t want them to get dark (i.e. if you just want to ripen it a *little* extra) then put the oven on its lowest setting (typically 170˚) and let the banana(s) stay in the oven for anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

  1. I think when you do this you compromise taste-flavour. The best bananas for baking are ripe but not rotten. Try placing them in a cardboard box and covering the box.
