Lava Lunch
Hot Lunch. Anytime, Anywhere.
Melissa Zimberg knows hot food. The owner of Lava Lunch and mom of two attributes the inspiration for developing the hot-lunch tote to personal experience and understanding what all moms want – to be able to provide their families with a healthy, hot meal; and to be able to do it in a way that is stylish, budget friendly, sustainable, and kid and earth friendly.
Inspiration for Lava Lunch came after her first son was born, when she was informed of his food intolerance and she soon discovered the difficulty in accommodating a healthy diet. While the benefits of a more natural, healthier diet were very visible and obvious, a method for maintaining it wasn’t. In the end, she cooked all natural whole foods at home, packing them in some sort of container and carrying it with them everywhere they went. But how to keep it from spoiling? Cooked foods need to be kept hot to prevent the growth of bacteria, not to mention, they taste bad cold after several hours. And so, Lava Lunch was born.
Lava Lunch is a timely, easy, and practical solution that combines hip modern design with function not available in any other lunch bag – Warmth. Lava Lunch keeps your food warm up to six hours and allows you to pack foods you never thought possible before – grilled fish with sautéed vegetables, leftovers from last night’s lasagna, grilled cheese sandwiches, and even burgers – all served hot. It does so through a combination of its proprietary insulation and additional heat provided by the Lava Rocks included.
The Lava Rocks are designed to absorb heat energy right from your microwave and store it above a predetermined temperature. Once the interior of the tote falls below this temperature, the Lava Rocks slowly release their heat, thereby maintaining the temperature inside the tote. And if that’s not cool enough, they are also made of organic, plant-based material, and designed so that they cannot leak – even if punctured.
Why hot food? Hot foods are more nutrient dense and easier to digest making them healthier. They have more flavinoids, so the they taste better too. Hot food signals the satiated response sooner, so hot food is the way to go for those concerned with their waistlines too. Not to mention, a family of four could save over $100,000 over the course of a thirty year career simply by bringing a sack lunch.
Moms love Lava Lunch because it allows her a simple solution to help her care for her family, makes her life a little easier, and provides a means of helping others as well. Lava Lunch’s 5-5-5 program serves as a recipe exchange for hot healthy meals, and participation serves as a prompt to Lava Lunch’s social justice program which donates 5% of purchases to help end childhood hunger.
Families love the product for its hip styling, flexibility, and ease of use. It takes only two minutes to activate, and can be reused thousands of times. Just pack your hot foods in a travel safe container, activate the Lava Rocks, pack and go. There’s room for snacks, and utensils in an outside pocket and a cold drink fits nicely in the side pocket. On days when a cold meal is preferred, just remove the Lava Rocks. The added insulation keeps cold meals colder than most bags as well. With that kind of performance, why would you ever need another lunch tote?
