We are still gearing up for Fire Safety this month here at 24/7 MOMS which is why we have partnered with Home Depot to share with yo our own personal story on why we believe every home needs a Kidde Fire Extinguisher
Here’s a little story…possibly a cautionary tale: when my youngest (now 11) was 2 years old he came wandering upstairs to where the whole family was sitting, watching a movie and explained that there was a fire downstairs. We all sort of brushed it off for a moment, thinking that he was playing imagination games with his toys..until a fire-alarm woke us from our stupor! We ran downstairs and found there to be a small-fire in our kitchen pantry, coming out of the toaster, working it’s way up the wall towards the baking ingredients shelf! My immediate reaction: WATER! My oldest son filled a pot full of water and immediately threw it on the fire. However, the fire seemed to just eat the water and get more energy! (something we learned later is quite common in household fires: apparently grease and chemical fires love water to get bigger). FORTUNATELY..so, so fortunately! we had a fire extinguisher nearby and once I pulled that bad boy out and sprayed the fire down with that chemically-white foam, all was well besides the burnt-up toaster, shelf and wall. So beyond the small mess of foam that I had to clean up, I was very glad that we had purchased and kept a fire-extinguisher in the house. Before I bought it I hadn’t even thought of the possibility that water could make a fire worse. I provide this cautionary tale to make way towards my obvious piece of advice: be safe, buy a fire extinguisher.
I remembered this story after receiving my new Kidde Fire Extinguisher from Home Depot, which can be used for all of your home fires including; trash, wood, paper, liquid, gas and electrical equipment fires. In other words, this fire extinguisher won’t feed the fire. It will smother it with safety-love! With a 6 to 8 foot discharge range and 8 to 12 second discharge time, you’ll be ready as soon as a fire appears. Click Kidde Fire Extinguisher for more information.
I hope my cautionary tale proves effective and prompts you to make your home a safer place for your family by purchasing one of these life-saving, home-fire-fighting cannons.
Last week we posted a giveaway for a Kidde Worry-Free Smoke Alarm (that lasts 10 years before needing a battery change!) and a Life+Gear Safety Night Light (that turns onto Safety Mode at the sound of fire-alarms) Click here to enter the giveaway now.
