MOM Tip: With the cold temps and rain coming keep your sidewalk and stairs from freezing over. If newly placed concrete freezes, immediate and permanent damage can occur; subsequent curing will not restore the concrete’s properties. Damage occurs because water expands 9 percent in volume when it freezes. You can avoid this by just sprinkling baking soda on them. It will keep water from turning into ice and it won’t destroy your concrete like salt. If your concrete has holes or cracks where water can build up, then you may want to consider polyjacking to fill them in.
Polyjacking not only fixes the problem, but it eliminates the cause. Because concrete slabs settle due to decomposing soils, erosion, and groundwater migration, injecting polyurethane resins into these loose soils and voids strengthens the earth and provides watertight encapsulation
