Think About It – Eat it or Starve

eatWhen I saw this quote on Pinterest “Today’s Menu : eat it or starve” , I had to to stop and  THINK ABOUT IT.  Could I or would I bring myself to impose  this rule in my home?  Would this sign encourage my kids to try new things, eat what is placed before them or would it create unwanted dinner time battles?  Would our happy dinner hour change to tearful dinner hour?

We all have our own parenting philosophies and  battles we are willing to fight – Eating  has never been one on my list of battles to fight.  Unfortunately,  I the mom am the pickiest eater in the house, which means I am not a perfect role model on eating what is placed in front of me, I don’t even eat many of the meals that I cook for my family, I admit I have food challenges, issues and would highly consider the  starve option  to avoid eating what I don’t like.

I have raised my kids offering them a variety of foods, not making food an issue , allowing them to choose to eat it or not.  Fortunately  I have five  pretty balanced eaters and my only requirement is: if you do like it you have to eat it not decide you want something different from what is being served just because you don’t feel like eating it.  That is not an acceptable excuse.  That is when the you can starve comes into play in our home.

How about in your home are you a Eat it or Starve mom?  or  a waitress happily making whatever your kids want even if you just cooked what you thought was their favorite meal?  Maybe you are somewhere in-between.  There is no right or wrong answer here just something to Think About.

  1. Ugh. This is my least favorite issue. Our rule is you have to try one bite, then if you don’t like it you can substitute for a healthy option you do like that you have to get yourself. I used to be a picky eater, so I sympathize.
