My 9 year old son is definitely engaging in news stories. But, I’m scared that most of it is inappropriate for his age. How do I screen the news from my son who wants to know the news?

Well I think I found my answer. This new app, News-O-Matic, is an educational news app that covers breaking news, sports, science, and much more in accessible and kid-friendly way!

It’s targeted to kids ages 7-10, News-O-Matic is a week day newspaper application which includes five daily news stories, detailed images, videos, illustrations, maps, timelines and games. P4K’s objective is to inspire a generation of children to become habitual news readers and well-informed global citizens.

News-O-Matic gives children the opportunity to explore the latest current events through the app, while also giving them a voice tonewsomatic article express their views. Children can interact with the Editor-in-Chief by rating stories, drawing pictures, asking questions or expressing opinions about current topics in the “News Room” section of the app.

My son and I really enjoyed this app. The top story for our first day was “Mindcraft being used in the classroom”. How thrilled I was to see his favorite video game being talked about in the news. Another section he loved reading was the interactive sports category.

I’m really excited about this app. This could be some great conversation starters! This is definitely worth downloading the FREE, three-issue trial to check out.

News-O-Matic is available for the iPad or iPad Mini in the Apple App Store for a Free, three-issue trial. After that you have the option of purchasing it weekly for $1.99, monthly for $6.99 or a year subscription for $49.99 (best value).
