Dark, Dreary and rainy days can often create cabin fever and the need to discover something fun and free to do. So, if you are looking for FREE activities and things to do with your kids this winter check out our list of 8 free things to do:
Visit indoor play places at your local Mall – is the rain keeping your kids from playing at your local par? head to your local mall play area and enjoy allowing your kids to run of that extra energy.
Movie Night-Rent movies from your local library, you will find many family friendly titles to choose from and they are FREE to rent.
Free Books – Rental books that is. Take a trip to your local library and sign your kids up for a free library card then allow them to check out 2 or 3 books to borrow and take home to read.
Make a Meal Together – Choose breakfast, lunch or dinner. Plan the menu, then assign everyone a job from setting the table to preparing the dishes that will be eaten during your meal. Work together to create your meal.
Hiking and Biking – bundle up and get out into the outdoors by taking a bike ride or going on a simple family hike.
Create a Family Tree – help your kids trace their roots by researching online, interviewing relatives to document their family tree.
Family Blogging – Start a blog/website with your kids using WordPress or Blogger. You can make these private and invite your relatives and friends to read them . Allow your kids to help choose the template/layout, begin writing and posting on their new blog.

Home Depot offers FREE Kids Workshops designed for children ages 5-12. The hands-on sessions are offered on the first Saturday of each month between 9:00am and noon at all Home Depot Stores.
The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children. Click here for more information.
Lowes: Free Build and Grow Clinic for kids at Lowes one Saturday each month at 10am. Build and Grow kid’s clinics are a great way to help build confidence! Bring the kids into any Lowe’s store and build a FREE wooden project. Each participant also receives a free apron, goggles, a project themed patch, and a certification of merit upon completion of their project.
