The bell rings, the bus pulls up, the door flies open and the first words you hear are ” I’m hungry” Yes, school is out for the day and your kids are in need of delicious snacks that keep them racing home each day – Today we have 6 kid pleasing after school snacks.
1. Easy Tortilla Quesadillas.
Ingredients
- Large flour tortillas
- Grated cheese – either cheddar or Monterey Jack
- Cooking oi, olive oil or cooking spray
Optional Fillers:
- Sliced black olives
- Diced fresh tomatoes
- Chicken pieces – fully cooked
- Seasoned and cooked taco meat
- Green onions
- lettuce
Dips:
- Salsa
- Sour Cream
- Guacolmoe
Instructions
1. Heat a large frying pan that fits thr size of your flour tortilla to medium high heat.
2. Add a small amount of oil (about 1/2 teaspoon) and spread it around the bottom of the pan
3. Place one large flour tortilla in the pan. Place desired fillings on top of it cover with second flour tortilla.
4. Flip the tortilla over after it browns to your liking. Cook on both sides allowing fillings to warm and melt.
5. Cut with pizza cutter and serve with desired dips.
2. Microwave Smores
Ingredients
- Graham crackers
- Chocolate bars ( Hershey, Kit Kats, Nestle crunch, Mr. Good Bar etc.)
- Large marshmallows
Instructions
1. Place half a graham cracker on a microwave safe plate – top with one large marshmallow.
2. Microwave for 10 – 20 seconds wathcing for marsmallow to puff up in size – remove immediatley.
3. Top with piece of choclate bar in flavor of your choice, them place second half of graham cracker on top creating a sandwich
4. Eat and enjoy!
3. DIY After school mix
Allow your kids to create their own trail mix.
Ingredients
- Dry cereal
- Small crackers
- Mini marshmallows
- Granola
- Assorted dried fruits
- Assorted nuts
- Chocolate chips
- Pretzels
- Chex mix
- M & M candies
Instructions
Have each child scoop the ingredients of their choice into a mixing bowl and stir them together.Then place into individual sized zip bags to enjoy as a after school snack.
4. Rice Cake Faces
Let your kids use their creativity to make silly rice cake faces – fun and simple and you can use almost anything out of your pantry and fridge to create faces.
Ingredients
- Large rice cakes – any flavor
- Cream cheese or peanut butter
Toppings of your choice
- Assorted dried fruit – raisins, craisins, blueberries, banana chips etc
- Assorted fresh fruits – berries, bananas, apple slices etc.
- Assorted nuts
- Chocolate chips
- Pretzels
- Shredded coconut, cheese, chocolate or carrots for hair
- M & M candies
- Dry cereal
Instructions
1. Spread peanut butter or cream cheese on the rice cake.
2. Then let the fun begin allowing your kids to add hair, eyes, mouths, noses etc.
3. Time to eat and enjoy.
5. Peanut Butter Banana Rollups
Ingredients
- Flour Tortilla
- Peanut butter
- Whole Banana
Instructions
Spread peanut butter onto a flour tortilla. Place a peeled banana at one end and roll up the banana in the tortilla. Cut into slices.
6. Crunchy Apples
Ingredients
- Granola of your choice
- Peanut butter
- Apples
Instructions
1. Cut up an apple into wedges with a knife.
2. Spread peanut butter onto apple slices.
3. Roll apple slices into granola and cover.
