Holidays to Mexico are becoming more prevalent among tourists from all over the world who want to experience unique attractions like mega cities, beautiful pueblos (multi-storied buildings), budding forests, and Mayan relics, among other things. It’s a country that offers something for everyone and a wealth of activities, no matter which part you visit.

Go to the beach

Mexico’s beaches are renowned the world over. In the Fifties, Hollywood stars flocked to Acapulco on the Pacific coast; today they go to Los Cabos. Cancún is the most popular beach resort on the Caribbean side. All along the Mexican coastline you’ll find not only bustling tourist beaches but also secluded spots where you can get away from the crowds and enjoy water-based activities such as kayaking, whale-watching, fishing and scuba diving.

Explore ancient ruins

Several great civilizations thrived in Mexico before the Spanish arrived. They built impressive cities and the ruins of these can be found in many different parts of the country. The most visited site is the Maya site of Chichén Itzá, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Teotihuacán near Mexico City was built by the eponymous empire while Monte Albán in Oaxaca was a Zapotec city. Each archaeological site in Mexico is unique and it’s a good idea to visit several of them for insight into the different cultures that shaped the Mexican identity.

Go on a shopping spree

Mexico is a great destination if you want to do some shopping. Goods are comparatively cheap, especially outside of the main tourist destinations, and you can find anything from exclusive designer goods to handicrafts from the markets. If you’re looking for something specific, see if there’s a town specialising in that item. For instance, Taxco is the place to go for silverware. Puebla and Dolores Hidalgo specialise in ceramics while guitarists from all over the world flock to the luthier workshops of Paracho.

Attend a fiesta

Mexicans love a party and any excuse for revelry will do. To experience celebrations like nowhere else, you may want to time your visit to coincide with a festival, whether it’s a local or regional fiesta or a national event such as Cinco de Mayo or the Day of the Dead.

Learn something new

To get something extra from your vacation, why not learn a new skill? You can take craft workshops, for instance. Many beach resorts offer diving courses and there are Spanish schools throughout the country. A great idea is to take some cooking classes. This way, you’ll be able to relive your Mexican vacation at any time simply by making supper!

Mexico has a wealth of riches to satisfy any tourists’ tastes. From the sunny beaches to its vibrant cities, Mexico is rainbow destination everyone should wish to visit.
