You never realize when you become a mom just how jam-packed your mornings can be. There are so many things you have to do: get out of bed, get dressed, comb hair, make breakfast, eat breakfast, brush teeth, and so on. As a mom, you understand that chaos happens almost every morning. One of the kids is crying about what they are wearing and the other kid is lost in thought while changing into their clothes for the day. And when everyone is ready to leave someone remembers they had some homework to do!
When you finally make it out the door, you feel relieved and promise yourself you will try to make sure this never happens again. Unfortunately, it’s a continuous routine every morning with the same chaos.

1. Prep the night before
Getting everything ready the night before can help save emotions of panic and chaos. Make your mornings calmer by doing some of the following things the night before.
- Pick out outfits the night before, including your own
- Pack all the kids backpack
- Prep lunch the night before if you can
- Ask about homework and make sure it gets completed
- Make sure that the shoes you and the kids are wearing are ready
2. Make sure you start the day right
Don’t miss out on eating a healthy breakfast. Make sure you make time to sit down and eat breakfast together. Kids are likely to eat more and enjoy breakfast if you are doing it with them. It is also one of the best ways to bond with your children.
3. Get the kids involved
When you are prepping the night before it’s a good idea to get the kids involved in the process. You can have them pick out what they are going to wear and what they want to eat for breakfast. It’s also a good idea to inform them about what is happening the next morning. Let them know what time you need to leave by or what time they think you should leave by. This can help your children be part of the decision process and even help them learn how to get ready in the morning where soon enough they will be doing it on their own.
4. Keep an emergency pack in the car
There will sometimes be those mornings where you wake up late or something else makes you running late no matter what routine you have set up. Plan ahead for these mornings by keeping an emergency pack in the car ready to go.
You’ll want to pack some healthy options if you don’t have time for breakfast. Some things you can pack are granola bars and dried fruit.
Don’t forget to pack a hairbrush in case you also have to skip doing it at home.
5. Switch up the routine
Switching the order of the routine to can help motivate your kids to do things faster. For instance, your kids might love eating their favorite cereal and hate to get dressed. They are likely to take longer doing tasks they do not like and quickly do ones they like to do. So have the kids do tasks they dislike first so they can spend as much needed time as they need on those tasks.
6. Reward them
Giving your kids rewards for finishing a task can encourage them to finish their task within a timely manner. Some rewards you can give your child is having a little extra breakfast or play with their toys longer. There are endless amounts of rewards you can give your children. Pick the best ones for your child that will help motivate them to do their morning routines.
