Every Day… Late to School! ARGH!!

By Leslie Pleasants

I just don’t get it.  I am organized (so I thought).  But every day when I take my daughter to Kindergarten which is really… no really… right across the street.  I am late.  Why?!?!  I am never late to anything.   My daughter attended preschool for 2 years…  never late and we had to drive 5 minutes away.  Now that we are 10 seconds away I am late.  Plus there is the newly 4 year old son that I am getting ready for preschool too.  But it doesn’t matter how much earlier I get up in the morning…. still late.

Anyone there with me??

Is it me?

Or do the kids just decide at the last minute EVERY day that they have to go potty right as we are leaving or have an accident (the newly 4 year old boy).  Throw tantrums because of something silly.  Decide they don’t like what they are wearing.  Are still hungry or thirsty.  All of a sudden their shoes don’t fit…. too tight.  I look at their face and it looks like they missed their mouth completely on breakfast.  Their perfect hair is now a disaster.  Somehow their shoe laces are double tied tightly in a knot and I can’t get them undone cause husband put shoes on the day before and did them too tightly.  Then there is always the good one… they open the door only for the cat to escape (indoor only cat) and now I am trying to chase after the cat who goes directly under the car….  just like magic… cats know how to push my buttons too.

Now of course I have faults too.  Where are those darn keys.  Digging through the purse…  which jacket are they in??  Now I have to go to the bathroom.  Did I turn off my flat iron?  Did I grab my purse?

Really,  should it be this hard to just drive your kids to school?  It shouldn’t.  I do my best every night to get all their clothes laid out.  Everything is ready with their school bags.. homework is done.  We should be all ready to go.  Just eat and get ready… and poof off we go.  Hah!  :)

And why is it when my husband takes the kids, they are on time!  Drives me absolutely nuts!!  How can that be.  He is the most unorganized of the household.  I have to tell him what to do… when to drop and pick up.  What they should eat.  I make lists for him.

Oh well,  Just hope the teacher doesn’t send me to the principles office.

These are all my own opinions and yes, I was late today.  :)  and don’t talk to me before I have my morning coffee please.  Thank you!

  1. I laughed so hard when I read this. I recently moved from a 10/15 minute walk to school to literally, across the street. Now, I too, am late every day!! I pride myself on my punctuality. I used to leave my old house at 8 and get to school on time every day.. now I start at 8 saying” let’s go..5 minutes” and next thing I know it’s 8:18 or 8:19 and school starts at 8:20 sharp. It’s the dart out the door and panic that the elevator will be there, the light will be green to cross the street, and the slow strolling K parents/kids who take up the entire sidewalk will not get in my way as I run to the school…usually doesn’t happen. It’s not just you!
