Sex and Teens – Let The Conversation Begin

I recently had the opportunity to hear Jeff Bethk speak  to nearly 400 high school students during a Young Life club meeting.   Who is Jeff  – Jeff is the 22 year old gone viral on You Tube  with the intention of creating conversation and that he has done with over 18 million hits to his “Why I hate religion but love Jesus” You Tube creation.  My definition of Jeff is a poetic  inspirational speaker that captures his audience with his combination of thought provoking words.

I sat in awe as I observed this 22 year old deliver a message that was not filled with fictious facts and stories but his story – he shared the good the bad and the ugly of his life being transparent and authentic to this group of high school students who sat silently listening to his every word, relating  to his life story.  His topic of the night was SEX the three letter word that captures the attention of teens. The same  three letter word so misunderstood and misused.  The night ended with the  opportunity to TXT in personal yet anonymous questions in which Jeff  publicly answered them in his honest and authentic way.  As a mom of teens I left that night thinking about this topic and how often this three letter word SEX can be a difficult topic to discuss with our own Teens.
