Two conversations I had in the last few days with my children got me to thinking about family, ministry and life priorities. I have already shared with you that my one little word for 2012 is CHANGE and that I (we) are in the get prepared phase for CHANGE and though we don’t yet know what CHANGE will take place in 2012 we feel that preparing is part of the CHANGE for us.
As we spend our days preparing it is easy to get side tracked with the to do lists, projects and visible things that obviously need to be done. But what about the not so visible ? The not so obvious? What about my heart? What about my families hearts? Are we preparing them as well to be ready for whatever change God brings our way ?
These two recent conversations with my children made me realize that my children are ready to receive more of what God has for our family in the days ahead – their hearts are ready to be prepared.
Conversation #1 – While laying next to my son as he was falling asleep and tickling his back we got into a conversation about what a missionary was.
Me: Nate, do you know what a missionary does.
Nate: a person who helps others and tells them about God
Me: have you ever thought about being one?
Nate: I already am one!
At the sweet age of 10 he thoroughly believes he is already a missionary already beginning to live out what God is asking of him.
Conversation#2- Was a discussion with my daughter Savannah about her future – much to lengthy to write out but the conclusion was my sharing a quote with her that I had come across
“Find your passion and make it your ministry”-
She then suggested that I read a book titled “Sun Stand Still” by Steven Furtick in which I quickly began reading and discovered it to be a book that challenges it’s readers to ask God for the impossible - to live a life of audacious faith believing God will perform.
I can now only ask myself What am I waiting for? It is time to have audacious faith and remember just like the author Steven Furtick says “ God has a mind-blowing plan for our lives. And even our everyday activities can take on exceptional meaning and have a massive impact .”
Not only did the book challenge me but I was even more challenged that my daughter recommended it to me to read - again realizing my children’s hearts are open and ready to be prepared for the Change ahead in each of our lives.
How do we prepare our children’s hearts to daily live a life of audacious faith? How do we teach them that God does have a mind blowing plan for each of us and we can make a massive impact if we allow him to?
Follow my journey here on 24/7 MOMS as I too discover what it means to have my families hearts under construction preparing for God’s mind blowing plan in 2012.

I have a 9-year-old that often blows my mind with the profound things she says. So I can relate to your children teaching you & opening your eyes. My daughter does the same to me regularly.
After experiencing some of what Pastor Steven Furtick shared along with other ministers in the Code Orange Revival, I have found that developing audacious faith is key, but does take energy. I plan to read his book as I think he has some God-ideas, not just good ideas. I think I’ve actually heard him say, “Find your passion & make it your ministry.” Something else I’ve heard him say, “Find what makes you miserable & make that your ministry.” Finding that thing that really bothers you, the thing that moves you to action is the same as finding your ministry.
I look forward to going on this journey with you as I embark on a year of change as well!
Best wishes & God bless!
